October 2019 Portfolio Summary

I am going to start to title my monthly reports using the month that I am writing in, instead of writing about last month's status, since I usually end up writing my monthly report at the end of every month. This summary will detail how my portfolio is doing for October 2019, as now is close to end of October.

I'll start with the two most important charts, which show the progress of my saving and investing strategy.

I added the following to my taxable account on 10/10 (Thursday).

I now only add to my taxable account as I do not use a 401k with my new employer. I rolled my original 401k with previous employer to a self managed IRA with the same broker I have for my taxable account, so both accounts basically are "one" account, easier to manage. And I can just walk in the same branch and get all the same job done.

I have not contributed to the Roth IRA for many years now since the $5-6K or so annual contribution limit is small compared to the contributions I do to my taxable account. So the extra paperwork, doing the backdoor Roth IRA, and managing multiple accounts is not worth it.

I also want to be able to use my money whatever way I like before old age, so I chose to pay taxes instead of delaying everything. Anyways, below is the purchase list. I tried to mix higher growth stocks with low dividends with high dividend slow growth stocks to balance things out.

September 2019 Dividends Received

Below are the dividends I received in September, close to $1800. All of this amount was reinvested back to keep the snowball moving.

It is a new high, and the dividends are pushing ever forward. The snowball looks to be set in motion.

Right now, the overall Portfolio is outputting  $19,518 USD a year after several recent additions. It is getting close to the $20K mark.

August 2019 Portfolio Summary

Will post this summary using data as of end of September, a bit behind on my reporting. Will make this short and keep it more visual than text.

Portfolio has been moving up and down around the $750K range for a while. A lot of turmoil in the Sino US trade war, which affects investor optimism. The $1M mark is coming closer, however it will still require a lot of work to get there. I am not sure if I can reach it, but it doesn't really matter, I will just push the goal out another year. It doesn't matter if I hit it one year faster or slower. The goal is the very long term, many decades out. After my first $1M I will shoot for the next million, and eventually each million becomes progressively easier to obtain, and my goal will then be $10M.

My annual dividends now is at $19,247. It is getting very close to the $20K a year in dividend income mark.

July 2019 Portfolio Summary

The July review is a bit late, not so much free time this month.
I'll post what happened as of 8/30/2019.

The S&P500 has pushed through the 3K barrier a few weeks ago. Recently stocks have retreated from the highs and are bouncing at some resistance levels below the 3K peak. The trade war with China has escalated, and this is creating uncertainties for many industries that rely on business in China or need goods supplied from China.

July 2019 Dividends Received

July has ended. And here are the results for dividend income collected. I collect these dividend payments like a landlord will collect his rent checks every month. And then I put the cash to work by reinvesting them in more shares. And the cycle continues. There's not much action or excitement or get rich tricks here, just a very repetitious and regimen-like, boring, but consistent, way of life. Kind of like watching paint dry.

Some of the purchases are good value, and yield higher. Some are lower yield, more expensive, but have very high growth rate. So I balance my portfolio with both. Since I'm young, my portfolio is more tailored to higher growth less high yield. I am looking for dividend and capital gain growth. The dividend, I can tailor later on for more income as I am older.

The portfolio's total dividend income per year shot up a few hundred. It now sits at $18,793

So close to the $20K barrier! This will be a big milestone, trying hard to achieve it soon.

Cash position sits now at $6842. The cash position will grow back up again soon, and I can again deploy it again. Hopefully by that time the market is at a lower point.

June 2019 Portfolio Summary

The S&P500 has been increasing. Right now, this is a high quality problem. On one hand, since my portfolio is around $730,000 the capital gains is large. However, it makes it very hard for me to add additional shares to my portfolio to raise my dividend income. I am not a fan of overpaying and as a result my cash position has slowly been growing. Right now I have around $20,000 in cash and am trying to find a way to deploy it.

June 2019 Dividends Received

June was a very good pay day. There was a large diverse bunch of companies that paid in June. $1750 is already a good amount to pay for monthly bills.

The purpose of this portfolio is to build and grow passive income. The sky is the limit to how big this income stream can be built to. Time is a very important resource in investing. To take full advantage of my situation, I started investing very early to get a snowball rolling.
