August 2018 Portfolio Summary

August was a busy month for me. I was not able to post earlier, so this is really a "end of September" post instead of August summary. This post will just focus on posting data.

Here is a screenshot of the S&P500 index. The market has run up a lot and it's hard to buy stocks at good value now.

All charts fixed

I fixed all the charts that were broken due to Scottrade no longer providing free graphs after TD Ameritrade acquired them. The charts are now interactive instead of simple pictures, so they may take a bit longer to load.

July 2018 Portfolio Summary

This post will summarize what happened to my portfolio in July of 2018. I will use data as of 8/17/2018 in this post (I am usually late to post the previous month's report). First we will summarize what happened in the general markets.

This blog summarizes my multi-decade long project of dividend investing. My purpose is to build passive dividend income that can grow by itself annually. The most important objective is the safety of the dividend, the self-sustaining ability of the companies to increase their dividends, and the overall growth of my passive income in the future to support myself. All results and dollar results shown here are that of my own and funded with my own hard earned cash.

The S&P500 index did very well in July. As a result my portfolio saw a decent increase in value. The rise has large support from the Consumer Staples sector. I have 31% of my portfolio in consumer staples so this boost really helped the portfolio value growth.

With a combination of market growth and increasing investment from my biweekly salary contributions, my portfolio has crossed the $500,000 threshold with high velocity.

New milestone hit $500,000

The stock market has recently been generous to my holding positions. Today I checked my computer and found that my asset less debts have reached $502,147 which puts me over my second to last milestone: $500K

The growth is done by a combination of my bi-weekly contributions plus growth and dividends from my investments.

I think this number will obviously fluctuate up and down in the short term with market fluctuations, but in the long term it is good to see the trend is moving upwards steadily to my goal or $1MM.

Although I have completed my 100K, 250K, and now 500K milestones, I do not really feel anything different in my life. It is rather anticlimactic. My daily life and vocation and investing is business as usual. I suppose I will pop a bottle of champagne and go buy a cake to celebrate my personal milestone.
