Putting trade talks aside as this is an investing blog not a political blog, the market treasury yields are all very low, the 10 year is at a measly 1.78%. This impacts equity prices, as lower interest rates means stock prices go up (and stock yields go down). In this environment, it is good if you held existing stock positions, but if you are constantly looking to buy more positions it is a bad time as everything has a very low payout yield due to inflated prices.
Right now, my portfolio is very close to crossing $800K. On the day after Thanksgiving, I ended at $792K and dividend income is $20,037 a year. 2019 was a very good year in terms of stock price performance. Currently we are sitting at a 27.5% YTD gain for the S&P500, which is a main cause for my portfolio gains in the 2019 year. In terms of performance, the last gain this large was in 2013 with a massive 29.6% annual gain. We did start 2019 on a very low note, so these gains may not be completely unreasonable especially since interest rates are this low.
The portfolio details are listed below. A lot of positions climbed back over $30K in November. Visa leads the group. Tobacco has been showing a strong come back as well.

I'll keep this month's review short and let the pictures speak for themselves.
Next month, I will write a longer year end report to summarize how the portfolio did relative to past years and how what areas of my investing is working or not working.

My portfolio size is very similar to yours with about 60% of my positions aligned with yours albeit with different weight-ages. Are you also planning to add new stocks to your portfolio with time or would you be just sticking to these names listed above?
ReplyDeleteI am always looking to add new stocks into my portfolio. However I have a hard time finding stocks that are better (using my criteria of picking companies) than the stocks I already have positions in. So I end up just adding more to the stocks I already have positions in, depending on their current price valuation or how much weighting I have in the position already.
